New York Wineries are Well Represented with Vinifera Wine Cellars

Published by under finger lakes wines

One of the New York wineries that is very well known is the Vinifera Wine Cellars which is New York State wine history itself. In 1962, Dr. Konstantin Frank founded Vinifera Wine Cellars. Dr. Frank’s research in the growing of grapes in a cold climate was essential to the establishment of the wine industry in the Finger Lakes region of New York. This family business is already in its third generation producing world-class wines that carry the traditions and quality that made this winery the cornerstone of the vineyard industry in America.

McGregor Vineyard on Keuka Lake

Published by under finger lakes wines

For this New York Winery the eastern shores of Keuka Lake is the perfect location for the McGregor Vineyard. This is a family run Winery since 1980 that follows the European philosophy of wine making. The McGregor’s’ say their wines reflect the “voice of the grapes”. The Vineyards were established before the winery with the planting of 28 acres of Vinifera and hybrid grapes in 1971. With continuous commitment to the vines and hand tending, superior wines have been created. This small but personal touch to creating fine wines can be tasted in their creations.

The New York Wine & Grape Foundation Slams Governor Patterson’s Budget Proposal

Published by under new york state wines all

New York Governor David Patterson has released his proposed budget for 2009 and it eliminates the 3 million dollar program that has been going to the matching funds of The New York Wine & Grape Foundation. They are famous for the slogan, “Uncork New York,”

This organization was formed to assist the NYS wine & grape industry with product research, advertising, and marketing support programs of various types. Jim Trezise of the foundation says that this cut if it were to pass into legislation would likely be the death knell for the foundation as they do not have enough independent support to maintain their operation.

An Increasingly Acquired Taste – New York State Wines – A Guest Post

Guest post by Rob Privitere-Coats.

I see California, I see France … In terms of wine, New York is no longer underpants!

New York State wines are slowly working their way into the cellars of connoisseurs throughout the country. New York State offers a wide variety of wines, catering to all palates.

In the past, the State of New York has hamstrung its wine producers with unnecessary restrictions on sales. In May, the Supreme Court ruled that New York’s restrictions on internet sales and the sale of New York wines in other states were unconstitutional, thus paving the way for record sales for New York State vintners.
