New York State wines are slowly working their way into the cellars of connoisseurs throughout the country. New York State offers a wide variety of wines, catering to all palates.
In the past, the State of New York has hamstrung its wine producers with unnecessary restrictions on sales. In May, the Supreme Court ruled that New York’s restrictions on internet sales and the sale of New York wines in other states were unconstitutional, thus paving the way for record sales for New York State vintners. Not that they needed a lot of help.

The term Ice Wine refers to a special type of desert wine that is made after selected grapes have been allowed to ripen fully and then to freeze on the vine. The sugars are concentrated and some rich flavors and tastes abound in the Ice Wine of the Finger Lakes.

Yesterday I was on a business trip that took me out through many of the Finger Lakes Winery areas. Unfortunately it was not possible to stop and visit with our old friends because this was on a different matter and I did not have time to do anything for NYuncorked (dot com).
I was able to reflect on some of my years of travel and work throughout that region and the fine people with a strong work ethic that live there. Back in the late 1960′s and through the 70′s and 80′s I witnessed a transformation in the grape growing business and the expansion of many of the excellent wineries that you appreciate so much today.
